WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
The use of play therapy and arts-based interventions creates an engaging context for addressing the unique needs of children and youth who are grieving. Join award-winning author and international speaker Liana Lowenstein, as she equips you with the knowledge and tools needed to work effectively with children, teens, and families who are grieving the dying or death of someone significant in their life.
You will learn up-to-date grief theory, an innovative assessment model, and a variety of creative play therapy and arts-based techniques to help children, youth, and families impacted by drug overdose, suicide, homicide, mass violence, military/line-of-duty casualties, natural disaster, serious illness, and other types of loss. Creative interventions for anticipatory grief will also be presented. The activities are adaptable for use in various settings, including mental health, schools, hospice care, support groups, and grief camps.
Recognizing the pivotal role caregivers play in supporting their grieving children, this training will also provide valuable tips and guidance to equip caregivers with sensitive and age-appropriate methods for discussing death with their children and helping them grieve in a healthy way.
This playful and experiential webinar is designed for both beginning and experienced grief care providers seeking new and innovative ways to assist children, youth, and families in navigating their grief journey.
NOTE: Attendees will get a special discount rate on Liana Lowenstein’s newest books: "Cory Helps Kids Cope with Grief: Playful Activities for Young Children" and "Creative Interventions for Bereaved Children, Second Edition" (coming in September 2024).
